flex2 can already export a spritesheet for every sprite in an object, but it can't really be used to edit the sprites externally to then re-import as you end up having to manually crop and re-import them to match the originals' position
i think an easy solution to trying to match the edited sprites to the originals would be to have an individual background color for the mapping blocks themselves on the exported sheet, so no matter what the program can just reuse the shape of the blocks to align to the originals
(and maybe if there's any additional art outside of the original mappings, those could be added in too as extra mapping?)
